A true Dominican in her love of study, Sr. Mary Esther also worked toward a degree in Applied Theology from Berkeley and took courses in Formation, Community Development, and Spiritual Direction at various institutes. Sr. Mary Louis possessed a wonderful combination of dedication to the youth she represented; a belief in the legal process she creatively maneuvered; a commitment to community; and, amidst it all, a sense of humor. The Adrian Dominican Sisters who made up the faculty there inspired her to religious life, and she entered the Congregation in 1944 right after graduation. She believed a strong person was one who showed respect for others and could have honest, forthright conversations that led to a peaceful outcome.
